TraumaClinic is the pioneer of EMDR therapy training, an international reference in professional training and trauma treatment (read about it in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research). For almost 20 years, the TraumaClinic Group has been training psychotherapists to do EMDR therapy. EMDR Consultants, Facilitators and Trainers have also been trained in the EMDR approach.

TraumaClinic trainers are internationally accredited by the EMDR Global Network as well as by AIBAPT – the Asociación Iberoamericana de Psicotrauma.

Additional Info

The TraumaClinic was founded by Esly Carvalho in 2008, although she had been training EMDR therapists in Brazil since 2004. Presently five trainers are on the TraumaClinic training faculty, and more than 15 organizers participate in setting up training workshops in the vast country of Brazil. She was responsible for taking the initial EMDR training to Ecuador in 1997, and became a Consultant during the time her husband was transferred to Dallas. The Journal of EMDR Practice and Research published a very insightful article about the development and implementation of the TraumaClinic EMDR training in Brazil and how it was instrumental in expanding EMDR to other countries.

The training takes place over a period of several months, divided in three modules of 17 hours each spread over two days, although we do make accomodations for other days due to religious requests. The theoretical tenets are taught in each module, as well as the supervised practicum, so fundamental to the learning process. Five hours of group consultation are given in Modules 2 and 3, totaling the required ten hours for course completion. There is the additional requirement of a minimum of 50 client sessions between Modules 1 and 3, in order to gain further expertise and confidence.

Our experience has shown us that it is important to include the consultation hours within the training module in order to help participants finish their full training. Group supervision permits greater learning from other's experiences as well. It also gives students time to practice what they learn. See the article published in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research.

Because this gives an opportunity for students to develop greater expertise and confidence in the use of the of EMDR protocols. People learn by doing and this proven true for EMDR as well. It also allows us to move forward with more advanced teaching instead of extensive reviews of previous content.

Participants receive a Certificate of Completion from TraumaClinic International as the training provider, which is officially recognized by the EMDR Global Network (EGNw) and AIBAPT. Upon completing the requirements of the training, the student receives an internationally recognized Certificate of Completion, the title of EMDR Clinician and their name is published on the TraumaClinic website on the list of trained professionals.

This training is recognized by the EMDR Global Network (EGN) and the Iberian-American Association of PsychoTrauma (AIBAPT) as an official training. The standards and requirements are very similar to EMDRIA, but this course has the further requirement of having the participant complete a minimum of 50 client sessions during the training period in order to gain expertise and confidence. These hours are reflected in their final certificate.

All of our training weekends are offered online although in-person training can be arranged on request, and according to the trainer's availability. The TraumaClinic Team has been training online since lockdown in March, 2020, and has acquired vast experience in this modality. TraumaClinic has a team of specifically trained Facilitators who have developed enormous expertise in facilitating online. We also offer online training to accomodate religious practices (such as sabbath/Saturday worships services) on request.

So glad you asked! Yes, indeed! We also offer the course in Spanish and Portuguese besides English. TraumaClinic also offers EMDR training in Arabic with a native speaker. Portuguese-speaking therapists are invited to participate in the workshops offered online in Brazil through TraumaClinic Brasil.

Yes, we do. Esly Carvalho has always followed Dr. Francine Shapiro's process and directives for EMDR professionals to become EMDR trainers, having been EMDR Institute faculty for 20 years (2004-2023). It requires time and effort, but we are committed to expanding the international outreach of EMDR therapy, per Francine's vision. Feel free to inquire if you are already a recognized Consultant with experience.
